Nestled in the heart of the Whitsundays, South Molle Island is a remote and vessel-only access location, requiring significant marine coordination for materials and workforce logistics. As part of a key infrastructure revitalisation for the Daydream Island Group, Carter Marine Group, under head contractor Dick Rowe Marine, was engaged to deliver the design, fabrication, and installation of a complete jetty, pontoon, and gangway system at South Molle Island.
Scope of Work
- Construction and installation of a fixed FRP-piled jetty with precast concrete superstructure. Pre case works conducted in Airlie Beach
- Custom fabricated aluminium floating pontoon, built to be hoisted above storm surge level - constructed in Bairnsdale and transported to South Molle by Carter Marine
- Transport included a mix of highway freight and marine delivery, carefully staged for tidal access, COVID19 restrictions and barge landings
- Articulated aluminium gangway with storm tethering points
- Design and implementation of a solar powered pontoon lifting hoist system
- Service integration including water, power, fire and lighting
- 316 stainless steel balustrading and marine ladders with integrated LED lighting
- Removable jetty shade structure with solar illumination
- Comcork anti-slip marine decking and HDPE pile sleeves on the pontoon
